The Art and the Ecstacy of the Chaconne

Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 8 pm

Doors open at 6:45 pm

Alix Goolden Hall, 907 Pandora at Quadra

The chaconne was considered so lascivious that it was often banned, but it inspired the highest art of the baroque, including works by Bach and Purcell. New York's leading period instrument orchestra and two baroque dancers explore the gamut of chaconnes from the sexy to the sublime.

"impeccable, thoughtfully shaped, dramatically taut." — New York Times
